LEARN MORE ABOUT KYBELLA

Learn more about Kybella

When exercise and dieting have not been successful in removing stubborn fat in the chin area, Kybella may be ideal. Kybella is a non-surgical solution for reducing moderate to severe fat deposits on the upper neck. Kybella is made of deoxycholic acid, a molecule that occurs naturally in the body and helps break down and absorb dietary fat. It is injected into fat deposits below the chin. Its ingredients destroy fat cells, so they can no longer store or accumulate fat. The result is reduced submental fullness, a more youthful-looking appearance, and a beautifully contoured chin. Kybella has been FDA-approved since 2015, used on-label for fat melting underneath the chin. It can also be used off-label for fat melting in other areas of the body, such as the upper arms, inner thighs, abdomen, and flanks, making it an excellent spot treatment for non-surgical fat reduction.

DETERMINING IF KYBELLA IS RIGHT FOR YOU

To explore treatment, we recommend scheduling a consultation appointment with Dr. Downie. She will examine your face and review your medical history. It is important to tell her about medications you take, including vitamins and herbal supplements. Dr. Downie will tailor a treatment plan that meets your needs, including the recommended number of sessions to achieve your goals.

The results of Kybella are permanent and require anywhere from four to eight treatments to complete, spaced approximately one month apart. A treatment session typically lasts 15 to 20 minutes, and the results are long-lasting. After the desired aesthetic is achieved, further treatments will not be necessary. In contrast to surgery, there is minimal downtime.

Based on clinical studies of Kybella, patients have reported an improvement in their self-perception, including feeling happier and younger because of changes to their chin profiles. Additionally, they have reported feeling less embarrassed and self-conscious following their Kybella treatment.

Kybella gives you permanent and lasting results. It is better than liposuction as there is less risk, less downtime, no compression garments, no scars, no leaking, and faster recovery.

Dr. Jeanine B Downie explains what is Kybella.
Kybella is FDA approved injectable drug which is done personally by Dr. Downie to her patients. She also says that this drug works really well as every time she uses it, the fat pad underneath the chin gets smaller. What is Kybella?

Kybella is liposuction in a needle and FDA approved injectable drug that we inject here at image Dermatology ® P.C. office.

I do it myself and I did the clinical trials for Kybella, I like the drug a lot. It works really well because every single time you use it, the fat pad underneath the chin gets smaller and smaller. My patients are very excited by the results all though they are gradual.

How is it done?

I explain to people all the time what happens with Kybella is the following. You inject it into the area that you want to target to decrease fat.

Once you inject it into that area what happens next is you get some immediate discomfort tingling, tenderness, and even some pain for about 22 minutes.

Is the treatment painful?

So my patients hold ices, use ice and drive off to go to their jobs after we inject them with Kybella. Over the next two to three days it swells up significantly, those days my patients wear a turtleneck, they might ice it a little bit, they might wear a scarf on their neck.

But basically, what’s happening inside the body is that Kybella is busting apart the fat cells. Kybella is what we call deoxycholic acid it’s a synthetic derivative of what our gallbladder secretes to fight fat within our system.

And here we are injecting it into troubled spots where there is fat to get rid of the fat. It’s a really cool technology.

Do you use off-label as well?

Off-label I use it for the upper arms, back, lower abdomen, inner thighs, I also using it for the little bit of bra fat.

That is when you put up on a bra and have a short-sleeved shirt on and you can see a little poke out of fat. However, in those cases, I recommend that people get an ultrasound or a mammogram done first to make sure that they have no issue with their breast tissues before starting with the Kybella.

The Kybella is used probably 50-50 in my practice so 50% men use it, 50% women use it.

Why do you recommend Kybella?

I love the consistency of the result with my patients with Kybella when they use it under the chin and different areas on their face and I like the fact that there is not a lot of downtime in this procedure.

I like the fact that I explain to my patients it is localized injectable liposuction in a needle. My patients are really into that description and they instantly want to sign up.

This is one of those technologies that work, it works well, it can be used on all skin types and can be used on both sexes.

Who is a good candidate for this procedure?

If your skin is way loose under your jaw and in between your thighs then you might want to reconsider using it there.

So for very loose skins maybe you wouldn’t use it, but somebody in great shape and who has good skin turgor you would absolutely want to use it.
