Juvederm

Image Dermatology
Rating: 5 5 Star Reviews, Image Dermatologist I met Dr. Downie over two years ago. Never having visited a dermatologist before, I prepared a list of issues and questions. While creating my file, her assistant softly suggested that Dr. Downie may not be able to review everything with me that day. I understood and tried to prioritize.

Dr. Downie entered the room with a huge smile, lovely, warm greeting and we proceeded to review EVERY DETAIL of my list and MORE questions that SHE wanted to make certain we covered. I left with a fist full of creams, ointments, oils, balms and prescriptions. EVERY product performed beautifully. When I shared the visit and prescriptions with my primary physician he complimented how advanced and sophisticated her recommendations were.

I have sent her numerous patients (friends and family) all with the same high praise for her manner, skills and ability to specifically treat their needs.

Dr. Downie is an outstanding physician but, more importantly a woman who brings a genuine concern and empathy for her patients to her practice.

Thanks to you and your staff for taking care of me and the ones I love.

Have fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin left you unhappy with how your face is aging? The volumizing benefits of Juvederm may be an ideal solution. Juvederm is the number one selling dermal filler in the United States because it restores youthful volume to facial structure, decreasing the appearance of wrinkles and folds. Dr. Jeanine Downie, founder of Image Dermatology in Montclair, New Jersey, works with patients to find an optimal combination of injectables including Botox, Restylane, Perlane, Voluma, Radiesse, Sculptra, and Juvederm to address their aesthetic concerns.

What is Juvederm?

Dr Downie does Juvederm Voluma for Janet's 60th birthday present.

Juvederm is a dermal filler formulated with hyaluronic acid. Its smooth consistency works extremely well in areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks, temples, chin, nasolabial folds, and even on the back of the hands.

Dr. Downie was involved in the initial Juvederm clinical trials. She previously had a great deal of experience with collagen injections, and was excited to offer this better option to patients when it became available.

How dermal fillers are administered

The hyaluronic acid in Juvederm replicates natural substances in your body so you will not need an allergy test before treatment. However, you should avoid vitamin E, fish oil supplements, and aspirin prior to injections, to reduce risk of bruising.

At your first appointment, your makeup is removed. While you look into a mirror, she watches how your face animates as you talk, smile, and laugh. This attention to detail helps her understand your concerns and where injections will be most helpful.

The injection process takes just five to 30 minutes, depending on how many syringes are needed. Treatment is well tolerated, and Juvederm XC (for eXtra Comfort) contains lidocaine for a more comfortable experience.

Recovery time

How does zero sound? There's no downtime – you may get on with your day immediately after a Juvederm treatment. Just remember to eat lots of pineapple to decrease bruising and ensure a smoother outcome.

Potential risks and complications

Injection of dermal fillers is a medical procedure that should be administered by or under the direct supervision of a physician, preferably a board certified dermatologist. As with any medical treatment, there are risks. Bruising, tenderness, or swelling can occur at injections sites, but those side effects are generally mild and resolve within a few days. Prior to treatment, Dr. Downie will talk with you about the potential for more serious complications. They are rare, but can occur in patients who take blood thinning medications, or have suppressed immune systems or severe allergies.

Patient questions

Is Juvederm safe?

Yes. It is approved by the FDA for treatment of moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. Dr. Downie and her team are trained and experienced in the use of dermal fillers, including Juvederm.

Can patients with ethnic skin tones get Juvederm treatment?

Yes. Clinical studies show no increased risk of pigmentation problems or scarring in patients with richly pigmented skin.

Is the improvement permanent?

No. You'll see enhancement right away, and since hyaluronic acid holds many times its own weight in water, the results of Juvederm continue for up to six months. Most patients are so thrilled with their new look that they schedule regular upkeep appointments.

Dr. Downie takes great pride in turning back the hands of time for her patients. Are you considering Juvederm or other injectables? Contact her today at +1 (973) 509-6900 to schedule a consultation in her Montclair office.
