HOW DOES THE FRAXEL LASER WORK?

The Fraxel laser works by creating tiny wounds in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing process, which helps to improve the appearance of the skin, addressing common imperfections with the skin, such as fine lines and wrinkles or hyperpigmentation. It can be used on patients of all skin types and is effective for both men and women, with noticeable improvements in the skin’s texture and tone.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE FRAXEL LASER?

Some of the benefits of the Fraxel laser include the following:

  • improved skin texture and tone
  • improved hyperpigmentation
  • reduced appearance of acne scarring/surgical scars
  • reduced appearance of wrinkles
  • reduced appearance of sun damage
  • improved skin elasticity

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE FRAXEL LASER?

Some of the side effects of the Fraxel laser include the following:

  • temporary redness and swelling
  • temporary itching and dryness

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT BEFORE AND AFTER FRAXEL?

When you enter the office for your Fraxel treatment appointment, you will be numbed for one hour before the procedure using a topical numbing paste to ensure comfort. After the procedure, you will need to be on a strict sunblock protocol and will need to reapply sunblock every two hours, even in the evening. We provide printed post-operative care instructions for you to follow closely after the treatment.

CAN I STILL GET A TREATMENT IF I HAVE COLD SORES?

If you are susceptible to cold sores, you can still have the procedure performed, but you will need to take a prescription medication for cold sores, such as Valtrex, during treatments. Let Dr. Jeanine Downie know if you have any active cold sores.
