Exfoliate and rejuvenate your skin with Vitalize peel

Almost everyone has something they would like to improve about their skin – some people are plagued with acne scars, while others have enjoyed a lot of time in the sun or have fine lines due to the natural aging processes. Even if you haven’t started developing wrinkles yet, you may be unhappy with your large pores or uneven skin tone or texture. There is a treatment that can help address all these issues! A Vitalize Peel® by SkinMedica® is a light chemical peel that treats mild to moderate versions of these imperfections. At image Dermatology ® P.C. in Montclair, NJ, Dr. Jeanine Downie can evaluate your skin and help you determine whether the Vitalize Peel is a good choice for you.

What is a Vitalize Peel?

A Vitalize Peel is one type of chemical peel that exfoliates skin and renews your complexion through the application of a specially designed blend of chemicals. There are multiple types of chemical peels that can address different skin concerns, and some peels affect deeper layers of skin than others. The Vitalize Peel is a relatively gentle chemical peel that is designed for mild to moderate cases of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Mild acne scars
  • Large pores
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Hyperpigmentation from the sun

After a Vitalize Peel, your skin will be smoother and clearer, your skin color will be more even, and fine lines and wrinkles will be diminished. On the spectrum of chemical peels, Vitalize Peel is a lighter, more gentle chemical peel, which means recovery time is more rapid. It is safe for all types and colors of skin, making it a versatile option for almost everyone!

At image Dermatology ® P.C., Dr. Downie is committed to ensuring the treatment plan that is developed for each patient is the best fit for not only their skin type, but also their desired results, preferences for several treatments and recovery time, and their budget. That’s why she first conducts a personalized consultation with each patient before any treatments are done. In your consultation, she will talk with you about your skin goals, perform an in-depth evaluation of your skin, and answer any questions that you have about the recommended treatment options that she provides you.

Once you and Dr. Downie have decided that a Vitalize Peel is a great choice for you, she will give you a list of things to avoid prior to your treatment so that your skin is not too sensitive during and after the procedure.

The treatment itself only takes about 10 minutes or less, and we ensure that there is ample time to discuss questions before and after the procedure, as well as go over your aftercare instructions. We ask that you come to your appointment with your makeup fully removed. First, we cleanse your skin thoroughly, and then the chemical peel will be applied to your face in two layers. Some patients feel tingling or a slight stinging sensation when the peel is on their face, but this is a sign that the peel is working at eliminating those dead skin cells that are dulling your complexion and causing rough skin. We can direct a cooling fan toward your face during your treatment to help make you more comfortable.

After the peel has been applied, we will moisturize and apply sunscreen to your skin, and will ask you to apply more moisturizer and sunscreen a few times throughout the day. That evening, we ask that you apply no makeup and leave the peel on overnight. By sleeping in the peel, it can thoroughly penetrate the skin. Finally, we ask that you rinse the peel off the following morning. If you apply makeup, it is important to wait at least eight hours prior to removing the makeup to ensure that the peel has a chance to penetrate your skin properly. It is important that you follow the after-care instructions that are provided, which includes regularly applying sunscreen to your face because your face will be more sensitive to UV rays from the sun after your treatment.

For optimal results, we typically recommend that you get more than one peel done, spacing the treatments approximately three to four weeks apart.
