Respected dermatologist compares dermal filler treatments to Botox
Thanks to advances in dermatology and the skills of Board-certified dermatologists, men, and women can turn back the hands of time with treatments including dermal fillers and Botox. After years of sun exposure, adults in Glen Ridge and beyond often seek treatments that restore their youthful appearance. They can find solutions to meet their unique needs at image Dermatology ® P.C., the practice of nationally known and highly respected dermatologist Dr. Jeanine Downie. Many patients wonder about the differences between dermal filler and Botox treatments. Dr. Downie is happy to explain.

WHY AN INJECTABLE MAY BE THE RIGHT SOLUTION FOR YOU
Sun exposure and smoking can expedite the process of aging, leaving patients with unwanted lines and wrinkles. These develop as collagen depletes. Facial expressions and squinting can leave lines caused by muscle contractions. Dermal fillers fill creases and restore volume. Botox is used to relax the muscles and stop them from contracting. The result is smoother skin in the treated areas.
DERMAL FILLERS EXPLAINED
We provide many different dermal fillers to meet unique patient needs. Restylane and Perlane can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Restylane Silk is the only dermal filler approved for lip enhancement. Juvéderm can create volume in the cheekbones and cheeks. Dermal fillers can boost collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm. Each can provide a more youthful appearance in a unique way. Dr. Downie has seen increased cheek volume because of using dermal fillers on herself and has experienced beautiful, long-lasting results.

BOTOX EXPLAINED
Botox is a prescription injection composed of a purified protein. We use Botox to treat horizontal lines above the brows (forehead furrows), creases near the outer corners of the eyes (crow’s feet), and vertical creases between the eyebrows (frown lines). Dr. Downie can personally attest to a reduction in the appearance of frown lines on her forehead after using Botox. She has been using Botox on herself for more than 18 years and on her patients for more than 20.
