How does Botox work for patients?
A wonderful way to reduce the appearance of stubborn fine lines and wrinkles on specific areas of the face is with Botox. Cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Downie, provides facial injections such as Botox to help patients with a myriad of aging issues and concerns.
Botox is a medication that is used to decrease the movement of certain muscles of the face to keep them from contracting. This, in turn, reduces the appearance of these fine lines and wrinkles. These can be crow’s feet, frown lines, and the lines that develop between the eyebrows. By injecting Botox into the muscles of these areas, patients are able to reduce the depth of these wrinkles and improve the overall appearance and youthfulness of their face. Botox makes you look less stressed and younger and Dr. Downie has been administering Botox since 1994 to her patients.
Botox is FDA-approved and completely safe. Dr. Downie has even received Botox injections, and she continues to use them to maintain a youthful appearance. She has had over 18 years of experience with injecting Botox, and offers training for the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Fillers and Injectables. She also undergoes many injection trials herself to test new and developing neurotoxin injectables. Dr. Downie has been using Botox on herself since 1996.
Once a patient has been examined and is determined to be a candidate for Botox, Dr. Downie will then prepare the patient for the injectable by numbing the patient with topical lidocaine (anesthesia.) The Botox is injected into the areas of the skin where the muscles are located to reduce their contractions and lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment itself only takes a few minutes, and patients can be in and out of the dermatology office in less than a half hour.
The results of Botox usually last three to four months, and patients are encouraged to return regularly for further injections to maintain the look that they have achieved. Patients who have experienced the benefits of Botox are very happy to continue to keep the results.
