Are you a good candidate for Sculptra?

Dermal fillers are a popular, non-surgical solution for replacing lost volume and sculpting the contours of the face. The first fillers on the market were made from bovine collagen, which had a number of issues, including common allergies. Today we have more, and better, options. The best-known modern ingredient is hyaluronic acid (HA), which is safe, non-allergenic, and yields instant results. HA fillers, such as Perlane and Restylane, are excellent products, but nothing is ideal for every situation. Sculptra is a unique type of filler, which volumizes gradually, by building natural collagen.

Safety of Sculptra
Because Sculptra is such a unique product, and it represents an exciting concept in dermal fillers. It is extremely biocompatible, requiring no allergy testing before treatment. It is formulated with poly-L-lactic acid, which has been used to create dissolving stitches for decades. As a soft tissue volumizer, it has been in use for over a decade, and the results have been wonderful. The safety of this product has been tested not only in clinical trials, but also in everyday use since 1999. Originally known as New Fill, it was developed as a therapeutic treatment for individuals with severe facial volume loss, caused by medical conditions such as HIV. It demonstrated dramatic, predictable, natural results, with an excellent record of safety, even for patients with compromised immunity. Very soon, the medical community recognized the potential of this product for cosmetic and anti-aging treatments.

Choosing the best product
Virtually anyone with volume loss or a naturally “skinny” face is a potential candidate. However, that does not mean that Sculptra is the best product of every patient, in every situation. Dr. Downie often combines types of fillers, or combines fillers with other techniques such as Botox®, to achieve the best result.

Sculptra is injected deep in the tissue, usually near the bone. As collagen develops in the injection area, it lifts the overlying tissue, creating an exceptionally natural look. Restylane and Perlane are generally recommended for lip augmentation, shallow wrinkles, and other delicate contouring.
